The obverse features Adolph A. Weinman’s iconic Walking Liberty design, originally used on the half dollar from 1916–1947 and widely considered one of the most beautiful designs in American coinage. Liberty is shown striding toward the sunrise, draped in the American flag and carrying branches of laurel and oak.

Since 2021, the reverse design depicts a bald eagle landing while carrying an oak branch, symbolising strength and renewal. Earlier coins (1986–2021) feature the classic heraldic eagle with shield design created by John Mercanti.
