Our Story: how Williams Bullion began
Williams Bullion was founded by brothers Ben and Matthew, alongside Blair, Matthew's longtime childhood friend. Our connection to physical metals began in childhood, through our grandfather: an investor and collector who believed in tangible assets, disciplined accumulation, and long-term thinking.
One moment in particular has stayed with us. When Ben was young, our grandfather handed him a small nugget of pure copper and said:
"This isn't worth much now, or in my lifetime. But in yours, it will be."
That sentence captured everything he believed about physical metals: patience, conviction, and the willingness to hold real assets long enough for their value to emerge. It is still the reason we do this, and the reason we tell our customers to own something real.
Being around physical gold, silver, and copper from an early age shaped how Ben and Matthew view them today: not as hype or speculation, but as real, ownable assets with intrinsic value. Blair, who grew up alongside Matthew, was shaped by the same thinking: the conviction that real wealth is something you can hold in your hand.
As we grew older and continued stacking ourselves, we noticed a growing gap in the New Zealand market. Quality bullion, particularly in certain metals and formats, had become increasingly difficult to source. Supply was inconsistent, premiums were unpredictable, and many products no longer reflected what bullion should be: simple, transparent, and honest.
Williams Bullion was created to address that gap.
